Danville Mayor Candace Andersen Announces Plans to Run For County Supervisor in District 2

(Danville, CA) – Danville Mayor Candace Andersen has announced that she plans to run for Contra Costa County Supervisor in District 2.

“I have the privilege of working with Supervisor Gayle Uilkema on various county boards.  She serves the community with dignity and integrity.   I look forward to following in her footsteps,” Andersen said.  “Our District 2 communities have much in common with regard  to maintaining our quality of life, especially in looking at growth, transportation, and safety” Andersen commented.  “I know I can make a difference on the County Board of Supervisors and I look forward to conversations with voters in coming weeks and months.”

Issues important to Andersen include: working collaboratively with county leaders and workers to find solutions to unsustainable pension costs; working with law enforcement officials to maintain and create safer communities; finding additional ways to support business expansion in high growth industries; and ensuring that development takes place within the Urban Limit Line.

If successful, Andersen will begin as County Supervisor in January 2013, following the completion of her current term as Mayor. District 2 Supervisor Gayle Uilkema recently announced that she will not seek re-election in 2012.  District 2 was recently configured to include San Ramon, Danville, Alamo, Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda and a portion of Walnut Creek.

Andersen’s experience in local government includes service on two city councils in the Bay Area.  She has served on the Danville Town Council for the past eight years including two terms as Mayor of Danville.  During the early 1990’s she served on the Morgan Hill City Council.  She is an attorney licensed to practice law in California and Hawaii, and began her career as a criminal Prosecuting Attorney in Honolulu.   She put her legal career on hold to raise her six children and serve in the community.  She is married to attorney Philip M. Andersen.

Along with her responsibilities on the  Danville Town Council, Andersen continues to volunteer throughout the community.  She serves on the Board of Directors for the Museum of the San Ramon Valley and assists them with their public relations.  She also serves on the Board of California Women Lead, East Bay Chapter.   She volunteers at her children’s schools and has served on PTA Boards at San Ramon Valley High School, Charlotte Wood Middle School and Sycamore Valley Elementary.  For many years she served on the San Ramon Valley Unified School District’s Legislative Committee. She has also been a volunteer leader for both Girl Scouts and Cub Scouts.
