About Candace

Supervisor Candace Andersen was first elected to the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors on June 5, 2012. Although her term of office did not officially begin until January 2013, Governor Jerry Brown appointed her to fill the remainder of the term of Supervisor Gayle Uilkema, who had unfortunately passed away. Supervisor Andersen was sworn in to be the District 2 Supervisor on June 26, 2012.

In June 2016, March 2020, and most recently in March 2024 Supervisor Andersen ran unopposed and was re-elected to four-year terms. 

Previously, Candace was on the Danville Town Council from August 2003 through June 25, 2012, serving two terms as Mayor. She also served on the Morgan Hill City Council from January 1993 through December 1994.

Supervisor Andersen is also an attorney licensed to practice law in California and Hawaii. She began her legal career as a Prosecuting Attorney in her hometown Honolulu, and worked as a civil practitioner with a small law firm in Morgan Hill. Candace put her legal career on hold to serve the community and raise her family.

Candace earned both her B.A. in Public Policy (1982) and Juris Doctorate (1985) from Brigham Young University. She attended the University of Hawaii’s William S. Richardson School of Law during her 3rd year of law school. She attended Punahou School in Honolulu, Hawaii from K-12.

Along with her responsibilities on the Board of Supervisors, Candace remains an active volunteer with the Museum of the San Ramon Valley, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and other community organizations.

She and her husband, Philip M. Andersen, have been married for 40 years and are the parents of six children ranging in age from 26 to 39. All six of their children are married to wonderful spouses, and they have been blessed with 11 grandchildren.
